The NFI Sushi Council is pleased to welcome BluGlacier, LLC as its newest member. With its foundation in sustainable Chilean salmon aquaculture and a U.S. commercial base in Miami, BluGlacier adds an important voice to the sushi industry’s efforts in responsible sourcing, supply-chain transparency and product integrity.

“Joining the NFI Sushi Council is a natural next step for us,” said Sebastian Goycoolea, Chief Executive Officer of BluGlacier. “At BluGlacier we believe that sustainable sourcing, supply-chain transparency and high quality are not optional—they are essential. We are proud to bring our salmon-growing expertise and premium product perspective to the Council’s efforts to strengthen the sushi category and elevate industry standards.”

BluGlacier was founded in 2016 as a U.S. joint-venture between two leading Chilean salmon-producers, Salmones Blumar S.A. and Ventisqueros S.A.. The company’s mission is to “make it easy for people to joyously eat salmon without taxing the planet’s resources in the process.” BluGlacier sources its Atlantic and Coho salmon from cold-water fjords of southern Chile, emphasizing wellness, sustainability and premium quality.

“We welcome BluGlacier’s membership with great enthusiasm,” said Michael McNicholas, Chairman of the Council and CEO of Oddisea SuperFrozen,. “Their strong background in sustainable aquaculture and premium salmon products complements the Council’s mission of promoting best practices, seafood safety and product integrity across the sushi value-chain. BluGlacier’s participation will enhance our collaboration among growers, processors, distributors and operators at retail and foodservice.”

The NFI Sushi Council is a stakeholder-driven grouping convened by the National Fisheries Institute to bring together growers, harvesters, processors, importers, distributors, retailers and foodservice operators across the sushi value-chain. The Council’s purpose is to promote product integrity, food-safety best practices, supply-chain transparency and category growth in the U.S. sushi marketplace.
